Sanwo-Olu Commissions Network of Roads in Somolu, Kosofe, Mainland Lagos

Urges residents to take care of public project

Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu on Friday inaugurated network of roads in Somolu, Lagos Mainland and Kosofe local government areas, urging the residents to take care of the projects.

The roads commissioned by Governor Sanwo-Olu were St. Finbarr’s College Road/Asani/Tijani Ashogbon/Jagunmolu/Shogbamu/Diya Streets.

The projects represent a critical part of the Lagos State’s infrastructural master plan and aligned with the THEMES+ agenda, particularly in transportation and traffic management.

The 4.7kilometers roads with an average width of 7.3 metres dual carriageway, connect renowned institutions like the University of Lagos, St. Finbarr’s College, CMS Grammar School and the Federal College of Education, Bariga Waterfront Jetty through the earlier completed Ilaje Road alongside a thriving network of small and medium enterprises, vibrant residential neighbourhoods and the iconic headquarters of Deeper Life Church, Gbagada.

Speaking during the formal commissioning of the project held at Ilaje Bus Stop in Bariga area of Lagos, Governor Sanwo-Olu said the roads projection was driven by his administration’s commitment to the Greater Lagos vision; a Lagos that functions optimally for the benefit of all its residents.

He said, “In line with the first pillar of our THEMES+ governing agenda, this road rehabilitation project will improve the commuting experience, boost the quality and value of real estate, and raise the quality of life for the people of the benefiting areas.

“As always, our focus on quality of delivery is unwavering. This project comes equipped with walkways, service ducts, and solar-powered street lighting, to ensure that it serves the full purpose for which it exists, at all times. Lagos will not settle for anything less.

“Lagosians should expect an immediate scaling-up of the focus on infrastructure; the completion of existing projects and commencement of work on new ones. No part of the State will be left out; we will continue to ensure that this development is equitably distributed.”

Sanwo-Olu also urged the residents to take excellent care of the upgraded roads to ensure that they stand the test of time, and are not subjected to abuse and misuse, noting that “The longer our roads last, the more the resources we are able to free up to attend to other projects.”

Speaking earlier, the Special Adviser to Governor Sanwo-Olu on Infrastructure, Engr. Olufemi Daramola, said the rehabilitation of the roads is expected to boost economic activities by increasing property values, supporting local businesses and improving access to educational institutions, commercial centers and residential neighbourhoods.

He said: “The rehabilitation of these roads will bring a significant improvement to the community. As a major strategic arterial road, it will serve as a key alternative route for motorists, significantly reduce travel time and ease traffic congestion.

“This initiative is aligned with the ongoing efforts to enhance intermodal transportation in Lagos, further reinforcing the government’s commitment to improving infrastructure.”

Also speaking, the stakeholders which included the Onisabe of Igbobi-Sabe, HRM Oba Owolabi Adeyemi Adeniyi; member of the Lagos State House of Assembly, representing Somolu I, Hon. Abiodun Orekoya and Chairman of Bariga LCDA, Hon. Kolade Alabi, among others commended the Babajide Sanwo-Olu administration for the network of roads and urged the residents to take care of the roads.
