Russia has launched one of its largest recent aerial attacks on Ukraine, using missiles and drones to strike several parts of the country. Ukrainian officials said the attacks targeted energy infrastructure, residential areas and other facilities.
One of the worst-hit areas was Pryluky in northern Ukraine, where a missile struck a five-storey residential building. The attack caused the building to collapse and killed 20 people, including five children, according to Ukrainian officials. About 55 people were injured, while rescue workers searched through the rubble for survivors.
Other parts of Ukraine, including Kyiv, Dnipro, Kremenchuk and several surrounding regions, were also affected. Power supplies were disrupted in parts of Kyiv after attacks damaged energy infrastructure.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy condemned the attacks and called for stronger air-defence support from Ukraine’s international partners. Russia, meanwhile, said its strikes were aimed at military-related facilities and infrastructure.
The latest attacks show that the Russia-Ukraine war remains highly dangerous, with civilians continuing to suffer despite ongoing international efforts to find a peaceful solution.
