Former Anambra State Governor Peter Obi paid a courtesy visit to former Kano State Governor Rabiu Kwankwaso on Tuesday night in Abuja.
The meeting took place shortly after Obi was cleared by the screening committee of the Nigerian Democratic Congress ahead of its presidential primary for the 2027 general elections.
In a post shared on X on Wednesday, Kwankwaso confirmed that the meeting held at his Maitama residence, describing Obi as “my brother” and expressing optimism about the future of the party.
“Last night, I received a courtesy visit from my brother, His Excellency Peter Obi, shortly after his successful screening as the presidential aspirant of our party, the NDC. The future is bright and full of promise,” he wrote.
The visit comes days after both politicians formally joined the NDC in early May 2026, following their departure from the African Democratic Congress African Democratic Congress.
The development has sparked political discussions across the country, with observers describing it as a significant realignment within Nigeria’s opposition landscape ahead of the 2027 elections. There is growing speculation that both leaders may consider a joint presidential ticket, although no official confirmation has been made.
According to party sources, Obi was recently cleared unopposed by the NDC screening committee after emerging as the only aspirant to purchase the presidential nomination form.
Both former governors, who contested the 2023 presidential election on different platforms, are reportedly engaging in discussions aimed at strengthening opposition unity against the ruling All Progressives Congress.
Photographs from the meeting show the two leaders in a relaxed setting, signaling ongoing political consultations within Nigeria’s evolving opposition bloc.
