The Peoples Democratic Party National Working Committee backed by Nyesom Wike has denied any involvement in the political gathering held in Ibadan alongside the Allied Peoples Movement.
The party described the event as misleading, unauthorised and not connected to the official structure of the PDP.
Speaking at a press briefing in Abuja on Thursday, PDP National Publicity Secretary, Jungudo Mohammed, said the Abdulrahman Mohammed-led National Working Committee had no alliance or coalition with the APM or any other political party.
“We have called this press briefing to address the misleading narratives and deliberate falsehoods being circulated concerning the social gathering scheduled to be held today in Ibadan under the guise of an alliance between the Peoples Democratic Party and the Allied Peoples Movement,” he said.
Mohammed insisted that anyone claiming to represent the PDP at the event was acting without the party’s approval.
He accused Seyi Makinde of attempting to create a false impression of political support and relevance through the gathering.
“What is being presented to Nigerians as a political alliance is nothing more than another desperate attempt by Governor Seyi Makinde and his associates to mislead the public,” he stated.
The PDP spokesman further alleged that the Ibadan event was effectively a public celebration of Makinde’s movement to the APM.
He also claimed that Bala Mohammed had earlier aligned with the APM.
According to Mohammed, recent actions by Makinde and his supporters exposed contradictions in their public claims of remaining within the PDP structure.
He argued that if they still recognised the PDP leadership they claimed to support, they would have purchased nomination forms through the Kabiru Tanimu-led interim leadership.
“Their actions have clearly exposed the contradictions between their public claims and political reality,” he said.
The party maintained that despite the internal crisis, the PDP remained united and prepared for the 2027 general elections.
Mohammed also dismissed claims that the party lacked a recognised leadership structure following the recent Supreme Court judgment.
The crisis within the PDP deepened after the Supreme Court, in a split 3–2 judgment delivered on April 30, nullified the party’s national convention held in Ibadan in November 2025.
The convention had produced a leadership aligned with Governor Makinde.
Following the ruling, the Makinde-backed 103rd National Executive Committee approved a 13-member caretaker committee led by Turaki.
Meanwhile, PDP National Secretary, Samuel Anyanwu, disclosed that legal action had been initiated against Turaki, former Senate President Adolphus Wabara and others over alleged impersonation of PDP leaders.
“We are going to take all necessary action against those impersonating PDP leaders,” Anyanwu said.
He revealed that the police had already invited those involved as investigations continue.
At the same time, members of the Makinde camp gathered at Mapo Hall for what they described as an alliance event involving the APM.
