Women’s Africa Cup of Nations hosts Morocco will face Cameroon on Wednesday evening at the Moulay El Hassan Stadium, with a place in the final at stake.
The two sides are meeting for the first time since 2000, when Cameroon secured a 4-1 victory after Morocco had taken an early lead.
Cameroon will be hoping to overturn their poor record against host nations as they prepare for another difficult test in the tournament.
The match will be Cameroon’s seventh against a host nation, with the Indomitable Lionesses yet to win any of their previous six encounters.
They have scored in only one of those six matches, when they drew 1-1 against Ghana in 2018.
Morocco, meanwhile, are targeting a third appearance in the WAFCON final after defeating South Africa 2-1 in the quarter-finals.
The hosts have also won both of their previous semi-final appearances, although both victories came after extra time and penalty shootouts.
Playing on home soil, Morocco will be looking to maintain their momentum and take another step towards winning their first Women’s Africa Cup of Nations title.
Their progress has also secured qualification for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup, which will be Morocco’s second appearance at the global tournament.
Cameroon will be aiming to upset the hosts and reach the final, but will have to overcome both Morocco’s current form and the home support at the Moulay El Hassan Stadium.
Wednesday’s semi-final therefore promises to be a closely contested encounter, with Morocco seeking to continue their historic run and Cameroon hoping to finally end their long wait for a victory against a WAFCON host nation.
