Kenya has confirmed its first imported case of Ebola (Bundibugyo virus disease). The patient was a Kenyan citizen who had been living in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), where he became ill.

He travelled through Uganda before arriving in Nairobi on October 3, 2026. He was quickly taken to hospital and isolated, but sadly died on October 5.

Kenyan health authorities are now tracing people who had contact with him and increasing screening at airports and other entry points to prevent the virus from spreading. WHO is supporting Kenya’s response.

In simple terms: Kenya has detected its first Ebola case linked to the ongoing outbreak in Congo, and authorities are working to make sure it does not spread further.
