CAF Women’s CL: SC Casablanca aim for glory

SC Casablanca will be making their debut in the CAF Women’s Champions League. For their debut, the Moroccan outfit are aiming to create a sensation.

Morocco will have two representatives in the third edition of the CAF Women’s Champions League, scheduled for November 5-19 in Korhogo and San Pedro, Côte d’Ivoire.

The Kingdom of Morocco thus becomes the first country to field two teams in this competition. After AS Far, who qualified as defending champions, SC Casablanca booked their place at the continental tournament. The Moroccans won the UNAF zone tournament held in Alexandria, Egypt, from August 24 to 30.

They sealed their qualification in style with a 6-1 win over Wadi Degla of Egypt on the final day of the tournament.

A club that has come a long way. Just four years ago, they were playing in the Moroccan third division. This qualification for the CAF Women’s Champions League is therefore a great achievement. “It’s a very special moment for us,” Sporting Club president Moad Oukacha told BBC Sport Africa. ”

From day one, nobody thought that after four years, we would be among the eight best clubs in Africa. Every team in Africa dreams of playing in this competition and fights to do so. We should be proud of what we’ve achieved.

Lodged in Group A alongside Athletico Abidjan, JKT Queens (Tanzania) and Mamelodi Sundowns (South Africa), SC Casablanca are aiming to spring a surprise on their debut. To achieve this, SC Casablanca will be able to count on Chaymaa Mourtaji.

The 27-year-old finished top scorer at the UNAF tournament. Mourtaji’s performance comes as no surprise, given that she was the best player in her country’s league last season and finished second top scorer with 21 goals. Her opponents have been warned.- Source:Sports News Africa
