Founder of Household of God Church, Rev Chris Okotie has warned Nigerians against undue expectations in the next political dispensation.
Okotie who has been spearheading a campaign for the restructuring of the federation said the next president will not make any difference in the polity. 09:14
He also stated that Aboriginal Democracy, if adopted, would eliminate the divisive tendencies in the nation’s polity. His views were made known in a statement by his spokesman, Mr. Ladi Ayodeji.
Okotie said it is regrettable that despite the complex problems plaguing the nation, religion and ethnicity continue to define the political debates in the current electioneering campaigns.
According to him,” it is preposterous to expect any miracle from the next President who is elected under a faulty political system like we now operate.”
He blamed the presidential system of government for the inability of the past governments since 1999 to meet the expectations of Nigerians.
He argued that candidates in this election are playing the traditional ethnic and religious card to win the support of the electorate instead of backing the call for a restructured federation.
Okotie believes a restructured federation would eliminate all the fault lines that make politicians shoot tribal and religious arrows in their bid to win elections.
He reiterated his submission that the present transition programme is a journey in futility.
Okotie insisted that only an interim government would be able to midwife the Aboriginal Democracy.
Aboriginal Democracy according to him is “an indigenous, home-grown system of government, suitable for our peculiar cultural, and political circumstances.”
