Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, is expected to headline a mega rally organised by All Progressives Congress (APC) stakeholders in Lafia, the capital of Nasarawa State, on Saturday, October 10, 2026.
The rally is being organised by the North Central Grassroots Mobilisation Network to demonstrate support for the re-election of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Vice President Kashim Shettima in the 2027 general elections.
According to the Federal Ministry of Information and National Orientation, the event will be hosted by Nasarawa State Governor, Abdullahi A. Sule, with governors, ministers, lawmakers, party leaders and grassroots supporters expected to attend.
The announcement followed a meeting of North Central APC stakeholders in Abuja, chaired by the party’s National Chairman, Professor Nentawe Yilwatda Goshwe. The meeting brought together the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume, alongside other political office holders and party leaders from the region.
Speaking after the meeting, Yilwatda said political stakeholders had agreed to mobilise their supporters and political structures across the North Central region for the rally.
He described the planned gathering as the “mother of all rallies”, explaining that it was intended to demonstrate the region’s support for the Tinubu-Shettima ticket ahead of the next presidential election.
The organisers are expecting participation from the six North Central states and the Federal Capital Territory. Women’s groups, youth organisations, grassroots associations and other party supporters are also expected to take part.
APC outlines grassroots mobilisation plans
Beyond the Lafia rally, the North Central Grassroots Mobilisation Network has outlined plans for other activities aimed at strengthening its grassroots presence.
These include advocacy tours, town hall meetings and medical outreach programmes in communities across the region.
According to reports, the proposed medical outreaches will include eye screening, cataract assessments, glaucoma checks and diabetic eye screening, alongside other selected eye-care services.
The activities are part of the network’s wider mobilisation programme ahead of the 2027 elections. However, the rally itself is primarily a political event designed to demonstrate support for the ruling party’s presidential ticket.
Police urge other parties to reschedule rallies
Meanwhile, the Nasarawa State Police Command has appealed to political parties planning rallies and other political gatherings for October 10 to consider rescheduling their events.
The police said the request was intended to support adequate security arrangements ahead of the APC rally and reduce the possibility of clashes between supporters of rival political parties.
The command also said the measure would help prevent security breaches and ensure the safe movement of the First Lady and other dignitaries expected at the gathering.
In its advisory, the police acknowledged the constitutional rights of political parties to freedom of association, peaceful assembly and political participation. However, it urged political stakeholders to cooperate in the interest of public safety.
The police further reaffirmed their commitment to ensuring that political activities are conducted peacefully and in accordance with the law.
The advisory places security and the management of political gatherings among the important issues surrounding Saturday’s event.
2027 election preparations gather momentum
The planned rally comes as political parties and their supporters begin strengthening their structures ahead of Nigeria’s 2027 general elections.
For the APC, the Lafia gathering offers an opportunity to bring party leaders and supporters together while publicly demonstrating the level of organisation and mobilisation in the North Central region.
The participation of the First Lady is also expected to draw attention to the event, while the presence of governors, ministers and lawmakers could provide a platform for further coordination among party stakeholders.
However, the rally represents the position and activities of the APC and its supporters; it does not establish how voters across the region will ultimately vote in the next election.
As preparations continue, attention will remain on the conduct of the rally, the security arrangements and the extent to which the party’s grassroots mobilisation programme develops in the months leading up to the 2027 polls.
