Real Madrid have announced the signing of Portugal midfielder Bernardo Silva on a two-year contract following his departure from Manchester City at the end of his contract last season.

The La Liga giants confirmed on Wednesday that the 31-year-old has agreed terms that will keep him at the Santiago Bernabéu until June 30, 2028.

“Real Madrid C.F. and Bernardo Silva have reached an agreement for him to become a Real Madrid player for the next two seasons, until June 30, 2028,” the club said in a statement.

Silva leaves Manchester City after a highly successful nine-year spell in which he made 459 appearances and scored 76 goals across all competitions. Since joining from AS Monaco in 2017, he played a key role in one of the most dominant eras in City’s history.

During his time in England, he won 20 major trophies, including six Premier League titles—four of them consecutively between 2021 and 2024—as well as the UEFA Champions League in 2023 as part of a historic treble-winning campaign.

At international level, Silva has earned 109 caps for Portugal and is currently representing his country at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, where he is expected to feature in their Group K opener against DR Congo in Houston.

His move comes as Real Madrid continue to reshape their squad after a disappointing season in which they finished eight points behind Barcelona in La Liga and failed to win any major trophy for the second consecutive year.

The Spanish giants were also eliminated at the quarter-final stage of the UEFA Champions League, prompting a major restructuring of the team under newly re-elected president Florentino Pérez.

Madrid have already been active in the transfer market, with the club recently announcing the signing of Spanish left-back Marc Cucurella from Chelsea for a reported fee of €55 million.

The club is also reportedly pursuing additional defensive reinforcements, with Liverpool’s Ibrahima Konaté expected to join upon the expiration of his contract, while Inter Milan’s Denzel Dumfries has also been linked with a potential move.

Defender Antonio Rüdiger recently extended his contract with Real Madrid until 2027 as part of the club’s long-term squad planning strategy.

Silva’s arrival adds further experience and creativity to Madrid’s midfield as the club looks to reclaim domestic and European dominance in the coming seasons.
