The Federal Government has warned Nigerians against leaving the country without valid travel documents, stressing that such actions are illegal and expose individuals to significant risks.

In a public alert posted on X on Monday, the Public Relations Officer of the Nigeria Immigration Service, DCI AS Akinlabi, emphasised that all international travel must be conducted with a valid passport, visa (where required), and other approved immigration documents.

The agency cautioned that attempts to bypass official procedures or use unauthorised border routes constitute violations of Nigerian law.

It also raised concern over the increasing use of fraudulent migration schemes, where criminal networks reportedly lure unsuspecting citizens—particularly young people—with false promises of employment, education, or improved living conditions abroad.

According to the Immigration Service, such schemes often lead to forced labour, human trafficking, and other forms of exploitation. It warned that no legitimate travel process bypasses established immigration procedures or official border posts.

Members of the public were urged to report suspicious migration activities to the nearest Immigration Service office or relevant security agencies.

The agency further advised Nigerians to verify all travel and recruitment offers through official channels and avoid dealing with unregistered agents promoting irregular migration.
