The Kano State Sector Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has deployed no fewer than 1,889 personnel for a week-long special patrol operation ahead of the 2026 Eid El-Kabir celebrations.

According to a statement by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, Abdullahi Labaran, the deployment includes regular officers and special marshals positioned across the state to ensure safer roads, smooth traffic flow, and prompt emergency response services.

The special patrol exercise, which runs from 25 to 31 May 2026, is part of routine festive-season operations designed to manage increased vehicular movement and heavy traffic on major highways.

The Sector Commander, Idris Lawal, said the initiative aims to reduce road traffic crashes, fatalities, congestion, and other highway emergencies during the Sallah period.

He noted that the Command has mobilised operational logistics, including 24 patrol vehicles, four ambulances, one heavy-duty tow truck, two motorcycles, radar guns, breathalysers, and other traffic management tools deployed to strategic locations.

Unit Commanders and 44 Local Government Station Officers have also been directed to maintain continuous patrols and full operational coverage throughout the exercise.

The enforcement focus will include speeding, dangerous driving, overloading, wrongful overtaking, lane indiscipline, mobile phone use while driving, and the use of unroadworthy vehicles, including expired tyres.

Mobile courts will operate across the state for swift prosecution of offenders, while emergency rescue teams remain on standby for rapid response to road incidents.

The Command assured motorists of 24-hour patrol coverage along major corridors, with special night rescue teams deployed for emergencies.

Members of the public were urged to comply with traffic regulations and use the FRSC emergency line 122 to report accidents, obstructions, or other road emergencies.

The Sector Commander also extended Eid El-Kabir greetings to residents of Kano State, wishing them a safe and peaceful celebration.

Eid El-Kabir, also known as Eid al-Adha, commemorates the willingness of Prophet Ibrahim to sacrifice his son in obedience to Allah before being provided a ram as a substitute.
