The attack took place in Assiut Governorate, where emergency services were deployed and victims were rushed to Assiut University Hospital, according to local reports and footage shared by Cairo24.com.

The Interior Ministry said security forces responded quickly, pursuing the attacker and engaging him in an exchange of gunfire that ended with his death.

Authorities confirmed that five additional people sustained injuries during the incident and are receiving medical treatment.

The ministry stated that the motive behind the attack remains unclear, but said preliminary information suggests the suspect had a history of psychological disorders and had previously received treatment at a psychiatric hospital in Cairo.

Security forces have launched further investigations to determine the circumstances leading to the shooting and how the attacker obtained the weapon.

Officials said the situation is now under control, with increased security presence in the affected area as inquiries continue.
