President Bola Tinubu has expressed Nigeria’s solidarity with several Gulf and Middle Eastern countries, including the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia and others, following recent tensions linked to the US/Israel conflict with Iran.
Tinubu made the remarks at the State House, Abuja while receiving Letters of Credence from seven ambassadors and two high commissioners representing different countries.
He said Nigeria remains committed to peace, stability and constructive international engagement amid rising global tensions.
“The Federal Republic of Nigeria expresses its full solidarity with the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, the State of Qatar, the United Arab Emirates, the State of Kuwait, the Kingdom of Bahrain, the Sultanate of Oman, and the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan,” the President said.
He added that Nigeria would continue to promote peace and stability across the world, stressing the importance of global cooperation in addressing insecurity and conflict.
“The world needs tranquillity, peace and love. We share that solidarity with all of you in that region,” he said.
Among the diplomats who presented their credentials were envoys from Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Lebanon, Sudan, Namibia, Rwanda, Somalia, Argentina and Republic of Congo.
Tinubu said their arrival marks a renewed phase of diplomatic engagement between Nigeria and their respective countries.
He assured the envoys of Nigeria’s readiness to deepen bilateral relations for mutual economic and strategic benefit.
“Nigeria values the bonds of friendship we share. We remain fully committed to deepening these ties for the mutual prosperity and progress of our peoples,” he said.
The President also highlighted Nigeria’s ongoing economic reforms, saying they are designed to position the country as a competitive destination for investment, innovation and sustainable growth.
He encouraged the diplomats to view Nigeria as a strategic partner open to cooperation in trade, infrastructure development and human capital investment.
Tinubu further emphasized Nigeria’s foreign policy priorities, including harnessing its youthful population, strengthening diaspora engagement and promoting democratic governance.
He reiterated Nigeria’s commitment to regional stability, particularly within the framework of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), and efforts to address insecurity in the Sahel region.
“The defence of constitutional order, regional integration and stabilisation of the Sahel are priorities we cannot achieve in isolation,” he said.
The President also called for stronger international collaboration to address global challenges such as climate change, energy transition, terrorism and financial inequality.
He assured the diplomats of full support from Nigeria’s institutions throughout their diplomatic assignments and encouraged them to explore the country beyond Abuja to experience its cultural diversity and economic potential.
Speaking on behalf of the envoys, the Ambassador of Qatar thanked the President for the warm reception and pledged continued efforts to strengthen bilateral relations with Nigeria.
Analysts say the engagement reflects Nigeria’s continued push to strengthen diplomatic ties with strategic partners while positioning itself as an active player in global and regional affairs.
