The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) at the University of Jos (UNIJOS) has declared a total and indefinite strike over the non-payment of lecturers’ March 2026 salaries and outstanding Earned Academic Allowance (EAA).

In a statement released on Wednesday, the branch Chairperson, Jurbe Molwus, directed all union members to immediately withdraw their services.

According to the directive, lecturers are to abstain from lectures, examinations, and statutory meetings until the outstanding payments are settled.

The industrial action took effect on April 8, 2026, following resolutions reached by the union’s National Executive Council (NEC) and the branch congress.

ASUU UNIJOS explained that the decision was prompted by persistent delays in salary payments despite the university’s bursary department completing its processing.

“After following due process, we hereby request all members to abstain from lectures, the conduct of exams, and statutory meetings, as our salary for March 2026 is yet to be paid despite our patience,” the statement said.

The union blamed the delay on the Office of the Accountant General of the Federation, noting that the university administration had already fulfilled its responsibilities.

“From our consultation, the delay is occasioned by the Office of the Accountant General of the Federation, as the bursary of the university has done its part,” the union stated.

ASUU warned that continued delays in salary payments could further strain relations between lecturers and the government, threatening industrial harmony in the institution.

The union also announced that its strike monitoring team has been activated to ensure strict compliance with the directive among members.

The indefinite strike is expected to disrupt academic activities at UNIJOS until the issues surrounding the unpaid salaries and allowances are resolved.
