President Bola Tinubu on Sunday in Lagos reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to tackling insecurity across Nigeria, emphasizing the safety and well-being of citizens during a meeting with governors and the Vice President in the aftermath of his State Visit to the United Kingdom.
Speaking at his Lagos residence, where he hosted Vice President Kashim Shettima and 23 state governors for the Eid-el-Fitr celebrations, Tinubu highlighted discussions with French President Emmanuel Macron regarding modern security equipment and support.
“Your presence here today shows your sincerity, commitment, and value for friendship and togetherness. The next phase of our struggle is staring us in the face, and that is the challenge of insecurity in the country,” Tinubu stated.
The President assured that his administration is working to strengthen international partnerships for security support and urged governors to remain steadfast in translating ideas into policies that directly impact citizens’ livelihoods. He also addressed the inflationary pressures stemming from the ongoing Middle East crisis, calling for measures to cushion the effect on energy and transportation prices.
Tinubu commended Vice President Shettima for the condolence visit to Borno State and promised stronger protection using new technology.
In response, the Chairman of the Nigerian Governors Forum and Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq thanked the President for his leadership and the successful UK State Visit, which included historic investment agreements. He stressed the collective goal of ending insecurity and noted ongoing discussions regarding state policing and the legislative framework needed to support it.
Governors in attendance included Sen. Hope Uzodinma, Alex Otti, Umo Eno, Douye Diri, Hyacinth Alia, and Bassey Otu, among others. The deputy governor of Borno State, Umar Usman Kadafur, was also present.
The meeting emphasized coordinated efforts to enhance national security, support vulnerable citizens against economic pressures, and explore legislative frameworks to empower states in combating crime.
