The First Lady of Nigeria, Oluremi Tinubu, has joined millions of Nigerians and the global community to celebrate women and girls on the occasion of International Women’s Day 2026.

In her message to mark the global event, the First Lady praised the strength, courage, tenacity, and achievements of women across Nigeria and around the world.

She noted that the celebration serves as a moment to recognise the invaluable contributions women make to families, communities, and national development.

Highlighting the theme for this year’s celebration, “Rights. Justice. Action. For All Women and Girls,” Tinubu said empowering women should be seen as an investment in society’s future rather than an act of charity.

According to her, providing women with access to education, healthcare, economic opportunities, leadership platforms, justice, and equity will lead to stronger families and more prosperous communities.

“This year’s theme reminds us that empowering women is not an act of charity; it is an investment in our collective future,” she said.

She added that empowering women will also promote inclusiveness and accelerate national development.

“When we give women access to education, healthcare, economic empowerment, leadership platforms, justice and equity, we gain stronger families, more prosperous communities, and a more inclusive nation,” the First Lady stated.

Tinubu emphasised that the growth and progress of the country are closely tied to the success of women.

“When women rise, Nigeria rises,” she added.

She concluded by wishing women across Nigeria a happy and fulfilling celebration while encouraging continued support for gender equality and the advancement of women and girls.

International Women’s Day is celebrated annually on March 8 to recognise women’s achievements and advocate for gender equality and the rights of women and girls worldwide.
