Vice President Kashim Shettima will on Monday chair a crucial two-day National Economic Council (NEC) Conference aimed at strengthening Nigeria’s economic coordination framework and promoting inclusive growth across the 36 states of the federation.
The conference, convened by the Minister of Budget and Economic Planning, Senator Abubakar Atiku Bagudu, is scheduled to begin on February 9 at the Banquet Hall of the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
With the theme “Delivering Inclusive Growth and Sustainable Development: The Renewed Hope National Development Plan,” the summit is designed to align state-level policies and programmes with the Federal Government’s long-term economic agenda.
The event was announced in a statement on Sunday by Mr. Stanley Nkwocha, Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Communications, Office of the Vice President.
According to the statement, state governors, key national stakeholders, top government officials, development partners and private sector leaders are expected to participate in the conference. President Bola Ahmed Tinubu will attend as the Special Guest of Honour.
The NEC conference will focus on critical macroeconomic priorities, including fiscal coordination, investment mobilisation and the development of shared strategies between the federal and state governments to drive sustainable growth.
Speaking ahead of the event, the Permanent Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Budget and Economic Planning and Secretary of the NEC, Dr. Deborah Oko Odo, said the conference would address national economic issues central to accelerating development across the country.
“The conference will focus on national economic issues aimed at encouraging economic growth and development across the country,” she said.
As Chairman of the National Economic Council, Vice President Shettima is expected to lead high-level deliberations that will deepen reforms under the Renewed Hope Agenda and generate actionable policy directions for sub-national governments.
The outcome of the conference is expected to strengthen collaboration between federal and state governments while advancing inclusive and sustainable economic development nationwide.
