Micheal Brennan produced a stunning final-round performance to win the Wyndham Championship on Sunday, securing his place in the PGA Tour’s FedExCup Playoffs in dramatic fashion.
The 24-year-old American closed with a six-under-par 64, finishing at 22-under 258 for the tournament and defeating Beau Hossler by three strokes at Sedgefield Country Club in Greensboro, North Carolina.
The victory is Brennan’s second PGA Tour title and comes at a crucial moment in his season.
Five Straight Birdies Change the Tournament
Brennan entered the final round one stroke behind Hossler but quickly changed the complexion of the contest.
Starting on the fourth hole, he produced five consecutive birdies, all coming from putts inside eight feet.
The remarkable run transformed a one-shot deficit into a three-shot advantage by the turn after Hossler dropped a shot on the ninth hole. Brennan then maintained his composure over the closing holes to secure the championship.
