The Kano State Fire Service has urged residents to exercise caution when handling fire and to take proactive measures to protect themselves and their property from potential fire incidents.
Assistant Director Hassan Gaya gave the advice during a sensitisation and public awareness programme held on Thursday at the Danbatta Local Government Area. The information was contained in a statement released on Friday by the Service’s Public Relations Officer, Saminu Abdullahi.
The programme is part of a statewide campaign launched last week to educate the public on fire safety, particularly during the harmattan season when dry conditions increase the risk of fire outbreaks.
“As part of the ongoing campaign to raise awareness about the dangers of fire outbreaks during the harmattan season, the Kano State Fire Service, Danbatta Branch, conducted a sensitisation and public awareness program on Thursday, 11 December 2025, at the Danbatta District Head’s Palace,” the statement read.
The agency encouraged residents to contact its office in case of emergencies via the numbers 08107888878 or 07026026400. The Director of the Fire Service has directed the Fire Prevention Unit to ensure strict implementation of the campaign to achieve maximum impact.
Recent fire tragedies underscore the urgency of these awareness efforts. Last Friday, four people, including two children, died in three separate fire incidents across Kano State. One of the most devastating occurred at Kundila Layin Baba Impossible in Tarauni Local Government Area, where an early morning fire claimed the lives of four family members.
In addition, no fewer than 25 temporary shops and 19 stores were destroyed in a fire at the popular Singer Market in Kano metropolis last month.
The Kano State Fire Service continues to emphasise the importance of vigilance and adherence to fire safety measures to prevent further loss of life and property.
