A chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Dele Momodu, has stated that only former Vice President Atiku Abubakar truly understands what it means to be competitive in the race to unseat President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 presidential election.
In a post shared on Facebook, the veteran journalist criticized the opposition for failing to unite or develop a common strategy ahead of the election, which he noted is barely a year away. According to him, the opposition’s lack of coordination shows they are not ready for the task ahead.
“I often wonder how some opposition presidential aspirants can think of knocking out President Bola Tinubu in 2027 when they have not even come together to agree on a common strategy,” Momodu wrote. “Let me emphasize that contesting for the highest office in any country is no child’s play.”
He noted that Atiku, who will be making his seventh presidential attempt, remains the only opposition figure “meticulously and practically pursuing his dreams” with an understanding of the scale of the challenge.
“Winning against a ruthless competitor is going to take more than social media appeal,” Momodu added. “It would require a stupendous war chest, extensive and nationwide structures, religious balancing, and overwhelming support from ethnic groups.”
Momodu concluded that many opposition aspirants appear unprepared or have given up. “As for me and my house, many of the opposition figures are just not ready. It is either they’ve given up on their dreams or they don’t mind Tinubu continuing with this charade of a government,” he said.
