Julius Berger Nigeria Plc has broadened its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) footprint with impactful women’s health advocacy programmes in Abuja and Lagos, underscoring its commitment to building strong communities in addition to infrastructure.
Last Tuesday in Abuja, the company partnered with the FCT Women Affairs Secretariat and the Family Peace and Women Empowerment Initiative (FAPWEI) to host the 2025 Women’s Health and Advocacy Programme. The initiative focused on early detection and management of breast and cervical cancer, drawing participation from healthcare professionals, policymakers, and community advocates.
FCT Mandate Secretary for Women Affairs, Dr. Adedayo Benjamins-Laniyi, praised Julius Berger for “not only building roads, but building people and strengthening communities,” noting its contribution to women’s health and national development priorities.
Julius Berger’s Chief Risk Officer, Mrs. Shakira Mustapha, reaffirmed the firm’s commitment to community development, highlighting that the initiative celebrated women’s resilience while emphasising mental health and preventive care. Head of Corporate Development, James Agama, added that the collaboration reflected the company’s broader vision of enabling progress and prosperity.
As part of the Abuja outreach, 400 bags of rice were donated to beneficiaries, further reinforcing the company’s social investment efforts.
Two days later, the initiative moved to Lagos, where a women’s health programme held at Gbagada General Hospital attracted hundreds of participants from the Kosofe area. Sessions themed “Woman’s Reproductive Journey and the Importance of Wellness through Self-awareness and Self-preservation” addressed menopause, pregnancy care, self-care, and early detection. Participants also received free medical check-ups.
Healthcare professionals including Dr. Olutokunbo Oseni and Dr. Noimot Balogun commended Julius Berger for championing preventive healthcare, stressing the importance of lifestyle awareness. The company also showcased its ongoing collaboration with the hospital, notably the rehabilitation of the Intensive Care Unit (ICU).
Reiterating the philosophy behind the CSR initiatives, Mrs. Mustapha said, “When you train a woman, you have trained a nation.” From Abuja to Lagos, Julius Berger continues to demonstrate that its legacy extends beyond engineering excellence to nurturing lives and promoting inclusive progress.
Community members and local leaders celebrated the initiative. Councillor Christiana Kuboye noted the company’s far-reaching impact, while the programme’s MC, physiotherapist Lanre Elegbeleye, praised Julius Berger’s long-standing commitment to excellence, responsibility, and collaboration.
