Onuachu Wins Super Lig October MVP

Nigerian striker Paul Onuachu crowned Turkey’s best player for October after standout performances for Trabzonspor.

Paul Onuachu has been named the Trendyol Super Lig’s Most Valuable Player for October, following a series of standout performances for Turkish side Trabzonspor.

The Nigerian forward was announced as the winner after topping fan votes on SüperOnBir, the Turkish league’s official voting platform for weekly, monthly, and seasonal awards.

In an official statement on social media, the organisers said,

“The most voted name of October has been revealed! Paul Onuachu became the MVP of the Month with the votes given by fans on SüperOnBir.”

The Monthly MVP award recognises the player who receives the highest votes from the “Monthly Best Eleven,” which is compiled from the top performers featured in the weekly selections. All votes are verified by the Turkish Football Federation (TFF) and KONAMI before results are made public.

Onuachu’s consistent form saw him score two goals and provide one assist in three matches during October, earning him the accolade ahead of several high-profile nominees. The Month’s Best Eleven also included compatriot Victor Osimhen, who previously won the August edition.

This marks a return of the monthly award to Nigeria after Besiktas’s Rafa Silva claimed the September title.

The 30-year-old striker has now registered seven goals and one assist in 11 league appearances this season, while also securing two Goal of the Month honours for August and September.

After a difficult stint at Southampton, where he managed just four goals in 25 Premier League games, Onuachu has rediscovered his scoring touch in Turkey. His resurgence began during a six-month loan spell in the 2023/24 season, where he netted 15 goals in 21 appearances, leading to his permanent transfer this summer.

With 193 career goals across Denmark, Belgium, England, and Turkey, Onuachu’s latest form has reignited calls for his return to the Super Eagles ahead of Nigeria’s 2026 FIFA World Cup playoffs later this month against Gabon.
