The Lagos State Government, through the Lagos State Urban Renewal Agency (LASURA), has commenced the second round of property enumeration for owners with valid documents under the Oworonshoki regeneration project.
The exercise, held at the Oloworo Palace in Oworonshoki, Kosofe Local Government Area, aims to identify and compensate qualified property owners affected by the ongoing urban renewal initiative.
Officials of LASURA, led by the General Manager, Mr. Oladimeji Animashaun, were joined by community leaders, chiefs, CDA and CDC officials, civil society representatives, security agencies, and journalists in the exercise.
Residents who missed the first round of verification turned out in large numbers to take advantage of the opportunity and become eligible for compensation.
Animashaun commended the residents for their cooperation and confidence in the state government, noting that 79 residents who participated in the first round had already received compensation.
“Governor Sanwo-Olu must be lauded and appreciated for the fulfilment of his promise to compensate affected residents,” he said.
The state had earlier, on October 23 and 24, presented certified cheques to qualified beneficiaries at a ceremony held at the Oloworo Palace, which was presided over by Animashaun and attended by dignitaries including Hon. Ganiyu Sanni, member representing Kosofe Constituency I in the Lagos State House of Assembly.
Sanni commended Dr. Olajide Babatunde, Special Adviser to the Governor on E-GIS and Urban Development, and Mr. Gbolahan Oki, Permanent Secretary, Office of Urban Development, for their efforts in ensuring that the government’s promises were fulfilled.
Residents were advised to collect enumeration forms, fill and submit them with relevant documents including LASSRA ID card, passport photographs, land receipt or deed of conveyance, and bank details. These submissions will be verified by a committee comprising LASURA officials, the Oloworo of Oworonshoki Kingdom, CDA and CDC officials, and representatives of the affected residents.
Animashaun assured that cheque presentation to verified and qualified residents would follow immediately after the enumeration and verification process.
Some residents expressed appreciation to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu and LASURA officials for their transparency, patience, and commitment to the successful execution of the compensation exercise.
