The Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) has introduced an artificial intelligence (AI) powered registration portal aimed at addressing delays and modernising service delivery.
Registrar-General and Chief Executive Officer of the CAC, Hussaini Ishaq Magaji, SAN, disclosed this on Monday during a stakeholders’ forum in Kano.
According to him, the upgraded portal represents a complete overhaul of the Commission’s existing Company Registration Portal (CRP). The AI agent will handle requests across compliance, registry, and customer service functions, providing faster and more accurate outcomes.
“In a bid to tackle the backlog of 7,000 registration applications, an AI agent was in the pipeline to handle requests across compliance, registry, and customer service with speed and accuracy,” the Commission stated.
The system now provides instant company name approvals, intelligently suggesting alternatives when a preferred option is unavailable. Magaji likened the simplified process to opening an email account, adding that the AI tool ensures seamless suggestions and approvals in real time.
He admitted, however, that the transition has been bumpy, with users facing delays in services not yet fully integrated into the system. He attributed this to the overwhelming number of applications processed since the June rollout.
The AI tool is also being designed to manage the Commission’s heavy email traffic—over 3,000 daily—by reading, categorising, and rerouting messages to relevant departments within minutes.
Reassuring stakeholders, Magaji said: “Problems have been identified, and solutions are already in motion. We are working assiduously to stabilise the new AI portal and improve customer satisfaction.”
