The Deputy Governor of Lagos State, Dr. Obafemi Hamzat, is not happy with how electricity is being billed. He said his official home was given a shocking bill of N29 million in April. This is a big jump from the N2.7 million bill in March.
Hamzat spoke on Monday at a meeting between the Lagos State Government and the Rural Electrification Agency (REA) in Victoria Island. He complained about the use of estimated billing, saying it is unfair and not accurate.
He also said it is too hard for people to get prepaid meters, which are supposed to help them only pay for what they use.
“How can anyone be asked to pay N29 million for just one month of electricity? This is wrong,” Hamzat said.
Many Nigerians have the same complaint — they are tired of being overcharged for electricity they didn’t even use. The Deputy Governor is now asking for better systems that are fair and easy for everyone.
