The Federal Ministry of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy (FMCIDE) has announced a significant new partnership with Google, securing a N2.8 billion grant from Google.org to accelerate AI talent development across Nigeria.
This funding will enhance the ministry’s ongoing initiatives aimed at upskilling youth and addressing the challenges faced by under and unemployed Nigerians in the field of Artificial Intelligence (AI).
The grant is part of Google.org’s broader commitment of $5.8 million to support digital skills programs throughout Sub-Saharan Africa. This initiative aligns with Nigeria’s goals to foster digital transformation and innovation.
During the announcement, the Minister of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, Dr. Bosun Tijani, highlighted the significance of this support in propelling Nigeria’s digital economy.
He stated, “The support from Google is a testament to our commitment to positioning Nigeria as a leader in AI innovation. By leveraging Google’s expertise and resources, we are creating opportunities to equip Nigerians with the skills they need to thrive in the global digital economy. This is a major step forward in our journey towards a more inclusive and innovative future for all Nigerians.”
