Twenty prospective members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) who were reportedly abducted while travelling from Oyo State to their different orientation camps have been rescued by security operatives.
The corps members were said to be travelling to their designated camps when they were intercepted and taken away by suspected kidnappers. The incident raised concerns among their families and communities, particularly because the victims were on their way to begin their national service programme.
According to reports, security forces launched an operation following the abduction and successfully located the victims. All 20 prospective corps members were rescued, alongside a civilian who had also been taken by the abductors.
The rescued victims were reportedly taken to safety after the operation. Authorities are expected to provide further details about the circumstances surrounding the abduction and the identities of those responsible.
The incident has once again highlighted concerns about the safety of young Nigerians travelling between states, especially those travelling long distances for national assignments and educational programmes.
Security agencies have continued to urge travellers to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities to the appropriate authorities. Efforts are also ongoing to strengthen security along major roads and routes frequently used by travellers.
The rescue has brought relief to the families of the affected corps members, who had been worried about their safety. It also comes as security agencies continue their efforts to tackle kidnapping and other forms of insecurity across different parts of Nigeria.
