Dangote Petroleum Refinery has reduced the price of Automotive Gas Oil (AGO), commonly known as diesel, by ₦80 per litre, bringing its new gantry price down from ₦1,780 to ₦1,700 per litre.
The new price took effect on Wednesday, October 7, 2026, according to a pricing notice issued by the refinery to its customers. The latest reduction represents about a 4.5 per cent decrease and is the second diesel price reduction announced by the refinery within a month.
The reduction comes as the cost of importing diesel into Nigeria has fallen. Data from the Major Energies Marketers Association of Nigeria (MEMAN) showed that the estimated spot landing cost of diesel dropped from ₦1,823.68 per litre on September 30 to ₦1,696.40 per litre on October 2.
With Dangote’s new gantry price at ₦1,700 per litre, its diesel is now around ₦75 to ₦85 cheaper per litre than imported diesel, based on the import costs reported earlier this week.
The development could provide some relief for manufacturers, transport operators, businesses and other diesel-dependent users, particularly those that rely on diesel to power generators and industrial equipment.
However, the reduction at the refinery does not automatically mean diesel will immediately sell for ₦1,700 at every filling station. Retail prices can still vary because of transportation, storage, distribution and other operating costs.
Industry watchers will now be monitoring whether distributors and filling stations pass the reduction on to consumers and whether the lower price will remain in place as international crude oil prices continue to fluctuate.
