United Nigeria Airlines has grounded one of its aircraft following a bird strike incident during landing of Flight UN0579 from Mallam Aminu Kano International Airport to Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport.

The affected aircraft, a CRJ-900, was immediately withdrawn from operations for comprehensive technical inspection and maintenance, the airline said in a statement issued by its Public Relations Office.

The flight, scheduled for 18:15 hours on Tuesday, was involved in the incident during landing, prompting the airline to activate safety procedures in line with aviation regulations.

The airline noted that while the grounding may disrupt some scheduled flights across its network, safety remains its top priority.

“Consequently, some flights across our network may not operate as scheduled; however, safety remains our highest priority,” the statement read.

United Nigeria Airlines apologized to passengers for the inconvenience and assured them that efforts were underway to restore normal operations as quickly as possible.

The carrier also disclosed that the incident marks the fifth bird strike involving its aircraft since January 2026. It, however, stressed that each occurrence has been managed in compliance with aviation safety regulations and established operational procedures.

“We sincerely apologise for any inconvenience this unforeseen development may cause to our passengers’ travel plans,” the airline said.

The airline reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining high safety and operational standards, adding that it would continue to take all necessary measures to optimize its services and ensure passenger confidence.
