Addressing the kingdom’s subjects and the wider public, the Prime Minister shared the solemn news: “It is with profound sadness and a heavy heart that I announce the passing of His Majesty the Omukama of Tooro, King Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru Rukidi IV, at approximately 10:00 pm this evening.” The official statement follows weeks of intense speculation within local Ugandan media regarding the young monarch’s rapidly deteriorating health condition.
King Oyo’s journey to the throne was extraordinary from its inception. He ascended to leadership in 1995 at the tender age of three following the unexpected death of his father, King Patrick David Matthew Kaboyo Olimi III, who died of a sudden heart attack. At an age when most children are just learning to socialize, the young prince was thrust into the responsibilities of traditional royalty. While regents oversaw the administrative affairs of the kingdom during his developmental years, Oyo officially assumed full regal responsibilities upon turning 18. Tooro is one of Uganda’s prominent traditional kingdoms, situated in the scenic western region of the East African nation.
