Tottenham Hotspur has condemned racist abuse directed at defender Kevin Danso following the club’s recent Premier League match against Brighton & Hove Albion.
In a strongly worded statement on Friday, the North London club described the abuse as “abhorrent” and vowed to take decisive action against those responsible.
The incident occurred on social media shortly after the match, prompting widespread condemnation from fans and football stakeholders.
Tottenham said it will not tolerate any form of racism directed at its players, stressing that it is committed to protecting its squad both on and off the pitch.
“Following the abhorrent racist abuse suffered by Kevin Danso on social media after the Brighton match, the club is taking a visible stand this weekend,” the statement said.
“We want to make it clear to the world that if anyone thinks it’s ok to racially abuse our players on social media, we will take the strongest possible action,” it added.
The club also announced plans to take a visible stand during upcoming fixtures as part of its zero-tolerance approach to discrimination.
Tottenham reiterated that football must remain inclusive and respectful, warning that offenders will face consequences whether the abuse occurs in stadiums or online.
The club said it would work closely with relevant authorities and social media platforms to identify those responsible and ensure accountability.
Danso, who featured in the match against Brighton, was reportedly targeted shortly after the game, triggering swift reactions from both the club and supporters.
The incident adds to ongoing concerns within English football over rising cases of online racist abuse directed at players.
