Tokunbo Abiru has distributed food packs to more than 10,000 households across Lagos East Senatorial District as part of activities marking this year’s Eid-el-Kabir celebrations.
The intervention was carried out across Ikorodu, Epe, Ibeju-Lekki, Kosofe, and Somolu divisions, where thousands of residents received staple food items such as rice and garri at designated distribution centres.
The initiative was designed to provide relief to households facing rising food prices and broader economic pressures across the country.
Beneficiaries described the support as timely, noting that it helped ease the burden of the festive season.
Speaking through his media aide, Enitan Olukotun, during the distribution at the Ikorodu Constituency Office, Abiru said the programme reflects his continued commitment to the welfare and socio-economic wellbeing of constituents.
He said Eid-el-Kabir represents values of sacrifice, compassion, and unity, adding that it was important to support families during a period of economic difficulty.
Abiru noted that the food distribution forms part of broader social intervention efforts aimed at cushioning the impact of economic challenges on vulnerable residents in Lagos East.
He also expressed support for ongoing efforts by the Federal Government under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the Lagos State Government led by Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, saying food security requires collaboration across all levels of leadership.
Beyond household distributions, the senator also provided rams and cows to Imams, community leaders, political stakeholders, and other groups across the district to support Eid celebrations.
He described the gesture as part of efforts to promote unity and shared prosperity during the festive period.
