Tamrose expands marine logistics operations into Angola

Nigerian-owned marine logistics company secures five-year offshore support contract in Angola.

Nigerian-owned marine logistics and offshore support company, Tamrose Limited, has expanded its operations into Angola as part of its strategy to strengthen its presence in Africa’s maritime and energy markets.

The company has established a permanent operational presence in Angola and secured a five-year Offshore Support Vessel (OSV) contract with a leading international oil company. The contract will see Tamrose provide marine logistics services, including the transportation of deck and bulk cargo between the client’s offshore facilities and other locations.

The expansion marks another stage in the growth of the Nigerian company, which has developed from operating a single vessel into a regional marine logistics provider with a fleet of 15 seagoing vessels.

According to reports, Tamrose’s growth was supported by a strategic partnership with Afreximbank, which enabled the company to acquire three additional Platform Supply Vessels (PSVs). The vessels — Aurora Diamond, Sapphire and Emerald — increased its fleet from 12 to 15 vessels.

One of the vessels is being deployed under the new Angolan contract to provide offshore marine logistics support.

Tamrose Executive Chairman, Ambrose Ovbiebo, said the company had spent the past decade developing its operational capabilities, fleet strength, governance systems and strategic partnerships to compete beyond Nigeria.

He said the company’s expansion into Angola would allow it to deploy its experience and assets in another major African energy market while demonstrating the capacity of African-owned marine businesses to provide offshore support services across the continent.

The Guardian reported that Tamrose’s fleet has grown from its first 29.5-metre vessel acquired in 2010 to 15 offshore support and security vessels. The company said its regional operations currently support more than 250 direct jobs and over 600 indirect livelihoods across its operating communities.

The company’s move into Angola also builds on its previous expansion efforts. In 2019, Tamrose accessed a $10 million Nigerian Content Intervention Fund facility through the Bank of Industry to expand its fleet. The company completed repayment of the facility in September 2025.

The Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board has previously highlighted Tamrose’s expansion as an example of how financing and local-content initiatives can help indigenous companies increase their participation in the oil and gas supply chain.

The expansion comes as Angola continues to develop its offshore oil and gas industry, creating demand for vessels and other specialised marine services supporting offshore exploration and production.

For Tamrose, the establishment of an Angolan operation provides an opportunity to move beyond Nigeria’s offshore market and compete for contracts across the wider Gulf of Guinea and Sub-Saharan African energy sector.

The company said its strategy is to position technical assets closer to emerging deepwater projects while maintaining the operational standards it has developed in Nigeria. Its services include platform supply, crew transportation, marine security and other specialised offshore support services.

The development also highlights the growing role of indigenous African companies in providing services traditionally dominated by international operators. Tamrose’s expansion demonstrates how Nigerian-owned maritime businesses are seeking opportunities beyond the domestic market while supporting offshore energy activities in other African countries.
