Vice President Kashim Shettima has departed Maiduguri, the Borno State capital, for Abuja after participating in the governorship primary election of the All Progressives Congress (APC), which produced Engr. Mustapha Gubio as the party’s flagbearer.

The primary election, held in Maiduguri, was attended by key political stakeholders, including Borno State Governor Babagana Umara Zulum, party leaders, lawmakers, and other senior APC figures.

Gubio emerged unopposed as the APC governorship candidate for the 2027 election, following what party officials described as a consensus-driven process.

Addressing party members during the exercise, Shettima urged stakeholders to close ranks, resolve internal disagreements, and work collectively to ensure electoral success for the APC.

He emphasised the need for unity within the party, stating that cohesion was essential to advancing governance and development priorities in Borno State and across Nigeria.

Shettima also linked the party’s objectives to the broader agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration, noting that credible leadership was central to achieving economic growth, improved security, and national development.

He called on party members to “bury hatchets” and remain committed to the success of the ruling party ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Governor Zulum expressed appreciation to party stakeholders for their support and participation in the primary process, describing it as peaceful and inclusive.

The newly emerged candidate, Engr. Mustapha Gubio, pledged to prioritise development, good governance, and fear of God if elected governor in the 2027 elections.

The Vice President was accompanied to the event by top political figures, including APC Deputy National Chairman (North) Ali Bukar Dalori, senators, members of the National Assembly, state legislators, commissioners, and other party officials.

The APC leadership in Borno State described the consensus emergence of Gubio as a step toward strengthening internal unity ahead of the upcoming electoral cycle.
