South Korean battery manufacturer Samsung SDI has announced a multi-year agreement with German automaker Mercedes-Benz Group to supply electric vehicle (EV) batteries, marking its first battery supply deal with the luxury carmaker.

According to a statement released on Monday, the batteries will feature high-nickel NCM (nickel, cobalt, and manganese) chemistry, a technology designed to improve energy density and performance in electric vehicles.

Mercedes-Benz Group plans to integrate the batteries into its upcoming generation of compact and mid-size electric SUVs as well as coupe models, strengthening its push toward a fully electric lineup in key market segments.

While the companies confirmed the long-term nature of the partnership, Samsung SDI did not disclose the financial value or volume of the deal.

The agreement underscores the growing competition among global battery suppliers as automakers accelerate the transition to electric mobility and secure long-term supply chains for critical components.
