Sam Johnstone: England keeper set to miss Euro 2024 Due to Elbow Surgery

Crystal Palace goalkeeper Sam Johnstone has been sidelined for the remainder of the season and is set to miss Euro 2024 this summer after undergoing elbow surgery.

The 31-year-old shot-stopper was forced to withdraw from the England squad on Sunday and subsequently sent to see a specialist. It was determined that he required surgery, which will rule him out of action for the foreseeable future.

Johnstone, who has earned four caps for England, was expected to serve as the understudy to Jordan Pickford during the upcoming European Championship in Germany.

Having made 23 appearances in all competitions for Crystal Palace this season, Johnstone’s absence will be felt by the team as they continue their campaign in the Premier League. Palace, currently positioned 14th in the league standings, are scheduled to face Nottingham Forest at the City Ground on Saturday at 15:00 GMT.

The setback comes as a blow for both Johnstone and Crystal Palace, with the goalkeeper playing a crucial role for the team throughout the season. However, the focus now shifts to his recovery process, with hopes of returning to full fitness in due course.
