The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has cautioned Nigerians against attempting to travel out of the country without valid travel documents, warning that such actions are illegal and expose individuals to serious security risks.
In a public alert shared on its official X account on Monday, the Service Public Relations Officer, DCI AS Akinlabi, stressed that all international travel must be carried out with a valid passport, visa where required, and other approved immigration documents.
The agency warned that any attempt to bypass official immigration procedures or use unauthorised border routes constitutes a violation of Nigerian law.
It also raised concerns over the increasing activities of fraudulent migration syndicates that target vulnerable Nigerians, particularly young people, with false promises of jobs, education opportunities and better living conditions abroad.
According to the NIS, many victims of such schemes end up in forced labour, human trafficking situations and other forms of exploitation.
The service emphasised that no legitimate migration process bypasses established immigration procedures or official border posts.
Nigerians were urged to verify all travel-related offers, recruitment opportunities and migration advice through official government channels.
The agency also advised the public to avoid dealing with unregistered agents or individuals promoting irregular migration routes.
It encouraged citizens to report suspicious activities to the nearest Immigration Service office or other relevant security agencies for prompt action.
The Nigeria Immigration Service reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening border security and protecting Nigerians from exploitation and illegal migration networks.
It stated that it remains resolute in enforcing immigration laws and safeguarding the country’s borders against irregular movement and criminal activity.
