The Governor of Niger State, Umaru Bago, has secured the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship ticket for the 2027 general elections through an unopposed affirmation process.

The affirmation exercise was held at the APC Secretariat in Minna, where party members from all 277 wards across the state reportedly endorsed him as the sole candidate for the upcoming election.

The process was overseen by the APC Primary Election Committee chaired by Danladi Mohammed, who confirmed that the governor emerged through consensus in line with party guidelines and constitutional requirements.

During the event, a motion for the adoption of Governor Bago as the consensus candidate was moved by Senator Mohammed Musa and seconded by Deputy Speaker and Niger State House of Assembly member Afiniki Dauda, representing Gurara constituency.

The committee also affirmed 27 state assembly candidates across the state’s 25 local government councils, with four councils producing candidates through direct primaries and the remaining 23 through consensus arrangements.

In his acceptance speech, Governor Bago expressed gratitude to party members and residents of Niger State for their continued support, describing the affirmation as a reflection of unity and trust.

He pledged to intensify development efforts and deliver more “dividends of democracy” to citizens if re-elected in 2027.

Meanwhile, in a related development within APC governorship primaries, Taraba State Governor Agbu Kefas expressed confidence in securing his party’s ticket, stating that he remains optimistic about emerging victorious regardless of the number of contestants in the race.

Governor Kefas made the remarks after participating in the APC governorship primary in Wukari Local Government Area, signalling ongoing internal party processes ahead of the 2027 election cycle.

The developments highlight a growing pattern of consensus-based candidacies within the APC as political activities intensify across states ahead of the general elections.
