Seyi Makinde has formally declared his intention to contest the 2027 presidential election on the platform of the Allied Peoples Movement during a large political gathering at Mapo Hall.
The event, billed as a “Unity Mega Rally,” reportedly transformed into a major political launchpad for what organisers described as a new national movement involving elements of the Peoples Democratic Party and the APM.
The rally, held on Thursday, May 14, 2026, attracted thousands of supporters and political stakeholders, with the venue filled with party colours and campaign branding.
Makinde, dressed in a white T-shirt, blue jeans and a blue cap, was accompanied by a large group of supporters promoting a “Makinde-for-President” campaign.
According to reports, the declaration marks a significant shift in the 2027 political landscape, as the governor positions himself as a leading contender in a broader cross-party alignment.
The event also featured announcements suggesting that the emerging alliance would field candidates across all levels of elections, including presidential, senatorial, and legislative seats.
Political observers say the gathering reflects an attempt to build a broader national coalition anchored in the South-West, with Ibadan playing a symbolic and strategic role.
The development adds a new dimension to Nigeria’s evolving political realignments ahead of the 2027 general elections.
