Dabiri-Erewa Commends Sanwo-Olu for Establishing Diaspora Agency in Lagos

Hon. Abike Dabiri-Erewa, the Chairman/CEO of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NIDCOM), has expressed her appreciation for the initiative taken by the Governor of Lagos State Babajide Sanwo-Olu in establishing a fully-fledged Diaspora office. The new office is designed to cater to the interests and welfare of Lagos indigenes residing abroad.

In a congratulatory letter addressed to Governor Sanwoolu, Dabiri-Erewa lauded the decision, emphasizing that the creation of the Diaspora office will foster closer relationships and expedite development in the state, especially in collaboration with its diaspora community.

Dabiri-Erewa highlighted that Lagos has now joined the ranks of states like Abia, which already has a Diaspora Commission, and Ondo and Anambra, where there are full-fledged Commissioners for Diaspora. Additionally, she noted that Edo and Cross Rivers are in the process of establishing their own diaspora agencies. Across the nation, every state has appointed a diaspora focal person.

The NIDCOM boss urged other states to prioritize diaspora affairs, recognizing that each state has its indigenes excelling abroad and eager to contribute to both state and national development.

She also  extended her congratulations to Governor Sanwo-Olu and the appointed State Diaspora Focal Person, Jermaine Sanwoolu, who will serve as the pioneer head of the newly established agency. This move is expected to strengthen ties between Lagos and its diaspora community while facilitating collaborative efforts for the progress and prosperity of the state.
