A coalition of labour leaders in Ondo State under the aegis of Labour for Good Governance has endorsed President Bola Tinubu for a second term in the 2027 general elections.
The group cited what it described as improvements in workers’ welfare, infrastructure development and the Federal Government’s decision to remove fuel subsidy.
The endorsement was made during a programme organised by the Asiwaju Mandate Group in Akure, the Ondo State capital.
Speaking at the event, the President of Labour for Good Governance in Ondo State and former Vice President of the Nigeria Labour Congress, Solomon Adelegan, described the Tinubu administration as worker-friendly.
Adelegan also commended the administration’s infrastructure and road construction projects.
He praised the Ministry of Interior, led by Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, over improvements in passport processing, claiming that applicants could now receive passports within one or two weeks rather than waiting for months or years.
The former labour leader also noted that Ondo State was producing three ministers under the current administration.
Another speaker, former Chairman of the Nigeria Labour Congress in Ondo State, Bosede Daramola, said the removal of fuel subsidy had changed the economic situation for many Nigerians.
She argued that the reform had increased the funds available to state governments to pay salaries and meet other obligations.
Daramola also commended the administration’s security approach and infrastructure projects, saying the developments contributed to the group’s decision to support Tinubu’s re-election.
The Director-General of the Asiwaju Mandate Group, Olumuyiwa Asagunla, described the endorsement as voluntary.
He said the labour leaders had chosen to support the President because they believed the administration was performing well.
Asagunla disclosed that the group had also mobilised support from people living with disabilities and other groups.
He said Ondo State had about two million registered voters, although between 400,000 and 500,000 typically participated in elections.
According to him, the group was working to increase voter participation through voter education.
The labour coalition pledged to mobilise support for Tinubu across the 18 local council areas of Ondo State.
The President and the Minister of Interior were also presented with awards during the event.
