Holders Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) have booked their place in the UEFA Champions League final after a dramatic 1–1 draw with Bayern Munich at the Allianz Arena secured a 6–5 aggregate victory on Wednesday.
The result sets up a blockbuster final against Arsenal on May 30 in Budapest, as PSG aim to defend the title they won last season.
PSG made a blistering start in Munich, with Ballon d’Or winner Ousmane Dembélé opening the scoring inside three minutes after a rapid counterattack involving Khvicha Kvaratskhelia and Fabian Ruiz.
The early goal stunned Bayern, who struggled to find rhythm in the opening stages despite dominating possession later in the match.
PSG’s defence, however, remained disciplined, limiting clear chances for Bayern’s attacking trio of Harry Kane, Jamal Musiala, and Michael Olise.
Bayern thought they might have earned a penalty in the first half when a clearance struck Joao Neves in the box, but appeals were waved away by the referee.
The German champions also protested another incident involving PSG full-back Nuno Mendes, arguing he should have received a second yellow card.
Despite sustained pressure from the hosts, PSG goalkeeper Matvey Safonov produced key saves to deny Musiala and other Bayern attempts.
PSG had chances to extend their lead, with Manuel Neuer making crucial stops to keep Bayern alive in the tie.
The Bundesliga side, who have already secured domestic honours this season, grew increasingly frustrated as PSG absorbed pressure and threatened on the counterattack.
Their persistence was finally rewarded in stoppage time when Harry Kane scored his seventh consecutive Champions League goal, but it proved too late to change the outcome.
The defeat means Bayern Munich, six-time European champions, will again miss out on a final appearance since their 2020 triumph.
PSG, meanwhile, continue their pursuit of back-to-back Champions League titles, a feat achieved only once since 1990 by Real Madrid.
The highly anticipated final against Arsenal will see two of Europe’s most in-form teams clash for continental glory in Budapest.
