Former U.S. President Donald Trump has suggested that negotiations with Iran to end the ongoing war could soon resume, hinting at a potential breakthrough and telling the world to expect “an amazing two days.”

Trump’s comments came as U.S. forces intensified a naval blockade aimed at restricting maritime movement in and out of Iranian ports, with several vessels reportedly turned back amid escalating tensions in the region.

Vice President JD Vance, who led recent negotiations that ended without agreement, said he remained optimistic about the direction of talks, which could reportedly reconvene in Islamabad later this week, according to diplomatic sources from Pakistan and Gulf states.

“I think you’re going to be watching an amazing two days ahead,” Trump said in an interview with ABC News, adding that extending the two-week ceasefire set to expire on April 21 may not be necessary.

“It could end either way, but I think a deal is preferable because then they can rebuild,” he said.

The conflict, which erupted on February 28 following U.S.–Israeli strikes on Iran, has triggered retaliatory attacks across the region and intensified tensions involving Iran-backed groups in Lebanon.

The U.S. military has reportedly intercepted multiple Iran-linked oil tankers since the blockade began, including vessels attempting to exit ports such as Chabahar Port and the Strait of Hormuz region.

Oil markets reacted sharply to the developments, with benchmark crude prices rising to around $96 per barrel after earlier declines. The volatility reflects investor concern over supply disruptions linked to restricted maritime trade flows from Iran.

A U.S. destroyer was also reported to have stopped tankers attempting to leave Iranian ports, while authorities said several additional vessels were turned back under the blockade. One sanctioned Chinese-owned tanker, Rich Starry, was among those affected.

Iranian media, including Mehr News Agency, reported that Tehran is exploring alternative ports to mitigate the impact of the blockade and maintain import capacity across different regions of the country.

As diplomatic activity continues behind the scenes, global markets remain on edge, with analysts watching closely for any breakthrough that could ease tensions or further escalate the conflict.
