Vice President Kashim Shettima has made an unannounced visit to Maiduguri, the Borno State capital, to condole with the Nigerian Army and the state government following a deadly attack that claimed the lives of senior and junior military personnel, including Brigadier General Oseni Braimah.
Speaking on behalf of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Shettima described the slain officers as national heroes who paid the ultimate price in defence of the country.
“These men wore the uniform for all of us. They stood to protect our communities, our families, and the future of our children,” he said, praising the bravery and sacrifice of the armed forces. “Their courage reminds us that peace and security often come at a very high cost.”
The Vice President’s visit comes amid renewed security concerns in Borno State, where military operations continue against insurgent groups. The latest attack, which resulted in multiple casualties, has further highlighted the risks faced by troops deployed in the region.
Shettima assured that the Federal Government remains firmly committed to supporting the Nigerian Armed Forces and intensifying efforts to eliminate criminal elements operating in the country.
He reiterated that under the Tinubu administration, “criminals will have no hiding place,” signalling a continued hardline approach to national security challenges.
The visit is part of ongoing federal engagement with military leadership and state authorities as Nigeria continues to confront insecurity in the North-East region.
