Ousmane Sonko, the Prime Minister of Senegal, has sharply criticised former U.S. President Donald Trump over the ongoing U.S.-Israel war against Iran, describing it as a destabilising force in global politics.

Speaking on Thursday at an international conference on sovereignty in Dakar, Sonko said the conflict had failed to achieve its stated objectives while plunging the world into avoidable chaos.

“Reducing Iran’s ballistic capabilities has not been achieved… none of the objectives has been met, and yet the world has been plunged into chaos that nothing can justify,” he said.

He added that Trump was “not a man of peace” but one who contributes to global instability, arguing that the war had undermined international order without delivering strategic results.

The conference was hosted by French political scientist Pascal Boniface, who said the world is undergoing a major geopolitical shift driven by the rise of the Global South and its demand for equal participation in global decision-making.

Boniface noted that while Western nations have not lost wealth or influence, they have lost their monopoly over global power structures.

“There is room for everyone… at the global table there should not be people who are seated at the table and others who are kept at a distance,” he said.

Sonko used the platform to call for stronger African unity, urging countries on the continent to pool resources and strengthen collective influence on the global stage.

He also emphasised the importance of Africa’s youth, describing them as a “force to be mobilised” in the pursuit of sovereignty and long-term development.

The remarks come amid growing international debate over shifting global alliances and the role of emerging economies in reshaping global governance.
