The wife of Charles Soludo, Dr Nonye Soludo, has urged Nigerians to consider how their daily choices impact the nation’s overall health, stressing that building an inclusive healthcare system is a necessity, not an option.

In a press statement released on Tuesday to mark World Health Day, observed on April 7 to commemorate the founding of the World Health Organization, Soludo emphasized that achieving a healthier society goes beyond government action.

“This message is not for the government alone. Of course, it’s expected that the government must take the lead action. But the process demands a collective vision,” she said.

This year’s global theme, Together for Health: Stand with Science, highlights inequalities that prevent millions from accessing quality health services, education, and safe environments, regardless of location or income.

Dr Soludo, founder of the NGO Healthy Living with Nonye Soludo, noted that her initiative has been making significant impact in Anambra State through weekly state-wide workouts, health education drives, and community outreaches.

“My NGO is leading an unprecedented crusade that has transformed the overall health consciousness and habits of our people,” she said.

The First Lady reminded Nigerians that good health is the result of consistent, intentional choices rather than isolated efforts.

“Health is not a one-off process. It’s a collection of those simple but significant daily actions that define good or bad health. Take care of yourself always. Be mindful of what you consume. Health is irreplaceable,” she added.

She further described health as “the greatest wealth” and “the greatest measure of a thriving society,” calling on individuals, communities, and institutions to align their actions with the goal of universal health access.

World Health Day, observed annually on April 7 to mark the founding of the World Health Organization in 1948, dedicates each year to a pressing global health priority. This year’s focus is on the theme Together for Health.
