Governments and financial-sector regulators have backed a new GITEX platform aimed at accelerating financial innovation across Africa.

The platform, MINT AFRICA by GITEX, was unveiled in Lagos with support from the Lagos State Government and is scheduled to make its full debut during GITEX NIGERIA Week 2027.

The initiative is designed to bring together governments, regulators, banks, institutional investors, fintech companies, technology firms and digital-asset innovators.

The platform will focus on the growing convergence between finance and technology, as African economies seek to attract the capital and infrastructure needed to scale home-grown financial technology.

AI and digital assets in focus

The launch comes as artificial intelligence, tokenisation, stablecoins, digital identity and programmable money increasingly reshape financial services.

These technologies are creating new opportunities for financial institutions and technology companies to develop products that can improve access to financial services.

The platform is expected to provide a space for stakeholders to examine how innovation can be supported through appropriate infrastructure and regulatory frameworks.

For African economies, the development of digital financial systems is becoming increasingly important as businesses and consumers seek faster, more accessible and more efficient financial services.

Platform targets collaboration

MINT AFRICA by GITEX is intended to support collaboration between governments, regulators and private-sector participants.

The platform will provide an opportunity for stakeholders to discuss the challenges and opportunities associated with financial innovation.

It will also allow technology companies and investors to engage with policymakers and financial institutions on the development of new products and services.

The initiative reflects the growing importance of partnerships between the public and private sectors in shaping the future of financial technology.

Africa’s digital economy

The launch comes at a time when African economies are seeking to attract investment in technology and financial infrastructure.

The development of digital financial services is expected to remain an important part of the continent’s economic transformation.

However, the success of new financial technologies will depend on the availability of reliable infrastructure, appropriate regulation and the ability of businesses to scale their solutions.

MINT AFRICA by GITEX is therefore expected to provide a platform for discussions on how Africa can strengthen its financial innovation ecosystem.

As the continent’s digital economy continues to expand, the platform could play a role in connecting investors, technology companies and policymakers around opportunities in financial services.
