The Federal Government, through the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), has opened applications for its Foreign Master’s Postgraduate Scholarship Programme for the 2026/2027 academic session.
The Commission announced the commencement in a flyer shared on its official X handle on Monday, stating that applications opened on March 23, 2026, and will close on April 19, 2026.
According to the NDDC, the scholarship programme is designed to equip young Nigerians from the Niger Delta region with advanced education and skills, enabling them to participate effectively in the local content programme and compete globally in their respective fields.
To be eligible, applicants must possess a first-class or second-class upper division degree and must be below 40 years of age. Interested candidates are required to apply online via the Commission’s official website.
Applicants are expected to upload key documents, including a recent passport photograph, Local Government Identification letter, postgraduate admission letter from a recognised overseas university, relevant degree certificates, and a National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) discharge or exemption certificate.
Upon successful submission, candidates will receive a registration number and are advised to print their acknowledgment slip for future reference.
The selection process will involve multiple stages, beginning with preliminary shortlisting based on academic qualifications such as WASSCE/NECO results, undergraduate degree classification, and Local Government identification.
Shortlisted applicants will proceed to a computer-based test to be conducted in Rivers State, where candidates must score at least 70 per cent to qualify for the next stage.
Successful candidates will undergo further screening and final verification through their Local Government Area and Community Development Committee before the final selection.
The scholarship is fully funded for study at foreign universities, with the award value determined based on the prevailing exchange rate of the naira.
Preference will be given to candidates from oil-producing states in the Niger Delta, including Abia State, Akwa Ibom State, Bayelsa State, Cross River State, Delta State, Edo State, Imo State, Ondo State, and Rivers State.
The Commission noted that changes in institution or course deferment will not be permitted, adding that only shortlisted candidates will be contacted for further stages, including the computer-based test and interviews.
NDDC also stated that it reserves the right to make the final decision on candidate selection.
