The Ogun Magistrate Court 1, Sagamu, presided over by Olufumilayo Somefun, has adjourned the case of Adeniyi Mobolaji, the Lexus SUV driver involved in former world heavyweight boxing champion Anthony Joshua’s road crash, to March 17, 2026.
This marks the second adjournment, allowing the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) to fully prepare for the hearing.
Mobolaji is charged with dangerous driving causing death, reckless and negligent driving, driving without due care resulting in bodily harm and property damage, and operating a vehicle without a valid national driver’s licence.
The court granted the adjournment following a request to allow counsel from the DPP’s office adequate time to prepare for trial.
The accident, which occurred on December 29, 2025, along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, claimed the lives of Joshua’s personal trainer, Latif Ayodele, and his strength and conditioning coach, Sina Ghami. Joshua and the driver sustained minor injuries and were later discharged from the hospital.
Joshua and his mother visited the funeral home in Lagos to pay their respects before the remains of Ayodele and Ghami were repatriated to the United Kingdom. A funeral prayer service was held at the London Central Mosque on January 4, 2026.
The deaths of Ghami and Ayodele, central figures in Joshua’s training camp, sent shockwaves through the international boxing community, highlighting the tragedy’s profound impact on the sport.
